Free-Range Soy Free Cockerel

  • Description

New for 2021 let us introduce you to our Soy-free chicken

Our cockerels (a male chicken) aren’t just free to roam and high welfare, they’re also now reared on a soy-free diet, what does this mean ?

We are taking small steps to reduce our own environmental impact here on the farm and by not feeding Soya to our flock we are taking one tiny step forward, most intensive poultry diets include Soya in the diet because it is high in protein and finishes the birds quickly in just 6 weeks.

Because we rear a slow growing french breed and grow them for over 100 days we are not pushing the birds to fatten quickly and can allow them to finish naturally out on the pasture topped up with a soy free and GMO free diet from a local mill, we also supplement this with oats grown here on the farm.

Reared in small groups in mobile sheds, our chickens get full roam off the hedges and fields during the day.

Free-range chickens are good, but these are better- large, slow-growing birds have plenty of flavour, with lots of meat to go around. We think they’re unlike anything you’ll taste anywhere else.

This is how chicken used to taste before intensive farming introduced inferior breeds with no flavour. This is the perfect centerpiece for a special Sunday lunch or Christmas dinner!

A one star Great Taste Award winner, here’s what the judges had to say “A good looking bird of substantial size. The Meat was moist and flavourful – the breast cut well. The dark meat had a great depth of flavour. Nice example of a free-range chicken.”

You haven’t tasted real chicken until you’ve tried our traditional Norfolk free-range soy-free cockerel!
