Taste of Excellence awards success for our North Norfolk Smokehouse

Our little North Norfolk Smokehouse has garnered more praise from the judges at the Pig & Poultry Marketing magazine awards this year!

Morton’s Traditional Taste’s oak smoked chicken crown and smoked duck crown’s have received a commendation from the 2014 Pig & Poultry Marketing Awards in Taste of Excellence Award category (sponsored by Morrisons Supermarkets PLC).

Pig & Poultry Marketing is a national magazine that holds the competition every year to find producers making the best tasting, best presented food in the UK –  and we are very happy to have made the grade!

Receiving our Pig & Poultry Marketing Awards commendation

All the competition winners were invited to the 2014 Pig & Poultry marketing awards ceremony held in London, at Marriot County Hall one a very wet afternoon on May 8th 2014.

You can see Rob with his certificate in the photo sitting on the sofa, to the right of the smart aleck with 3 awards!

The awards not only took into account the flavour, appearance and the way we’ve marketed our smoked meats, but also the high-quality approach to animal welfare and veterinary practices we have on Hall Farm, which is of course a strong focus of ours!

This approach to animal welfare is the same across all the meats we sell at our farm, from our turkeys (both bronze and black), to our cockerels.

The judges commended our smoked duck and chicken

The competition judges thought our smoked chicken and duck crowns were fantastic Artisan food, and they appreciated the natural smoking process we’ve been perfecting for years (not using artificial liquid smoke to flavour our product).

They found the taste and texture of both our smoked duck and chicken appealing and felt sure that once tried “customers would come back for more!”

Taking the time to perfect and produce Artisan foods like ours can be a hard slog, so it’s great when our efforts are recognised by experts and customers!

Other food producers who won a Taste of Excellence Award

We were only only Artisan food producer to get recognition for our efforts, although it was a very select group of only 3 businesses (including ourselves!).

We were very proud to be ranked alongside both of the other winners, who were:

Woodall’s Charcuterie

Woodall’s won awards for both their smoked pancetta their Cumberland salami – both products being commended not only have a great flavour also packaging design. So a big well done to them!


The judges loved Bacon-Jams bang up-to-date packaging design for their range of relishes the burgers and meats. The jam itself is also delicious!
